COVA were enlisted to provide project management services at the town centre site in an effort to spark regeneration and encourage growth within the area.
Constructed on a Greenfield site, the Rouse Hill redevelopment included the addition of large retail outlets such as Big W, Target, Woolworths and Coles, as well as the introduction of over 200 specialty stores, a cinema complex and a major transport interchange. The site was also to include a new 100 unit residential apartment building as well as a local library and community centre.
In conjunction with the NSW Government, lend Lease and GPT Group, COVA provided hydraulic and fire design services across the entire site, which incorporated design features such as rainwater harvesting and the development of water efficient fixtures and fittings. An example of sustainability best practice, the centre’s hydraulic system was designed to seamlessly integrate a number of energy efficient elements, which ensured that the town centre consistently used 60% less water than the average retail centre.
In partnership with Sydney Water and as part of the country’s largest residential water recycling initiatives, COVA also delivered an innovative and cutting edge black and grey water recycling scheme. This involved the design and construction of a state of the art cooling tower for the management of recycled wastewater within the complex.
Through COVA’s focus on the delivery of innovative systems to enhance overall performance and reduce the centres impact on the environment, the Rouse Hill Town Centre is not only able to ensure that less water and energy is consumed, but also increase use of water supplied from a recycled source. As such, these measures have assisted the centre to reduce its eco-footprint by 32% and set it apart as leader in the shift towards sustainability and greater environmental awareness worldwide.
